After you have your Desktop connected to your Laptop, and they have connectivity, then you can use your Wireless interface of your Laptop to connect to wireless.

You can also use an ethernet switch in between with regular cables, in place of a cross-over cable.
Assuming you are running windows on the laptop.
You will have to go into Network Connections.
Select both the wireless and wired connection –> right click
Select “Bridge connections” and go from there.
I do the same thing as I have multiple computers and only have wireless where I live.
Good luck!
