Lenovo Thinkpad t400 – Worth Buying ?

I will be using it for school work (writing assignments and other) and gaming. Is it a good laptop and how is the specifications on it? Would it be good for what I want it for?

I recommend invest even more if possible. Get 6 GB DDR3 Ram if they have an option for it.
Also, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get a SSD (Solid State Drive) instead of a crappy 5400 RPM Drive. They tend to heat up and it’s a huge downfall for laptops, so instead of having a Frying laptop, get a SSD. They’re kind of like flash drives, no moving parts.
I also recommend upgrading your battery to a 9 Cell battery.
Those are the things that I see, that need improvement in. Everything else is fine.

that computer is pretty good, with an excellent CPU, but the graphics are the weak point. you will not be able to do much serious gaming with it. also, you want a bigger laptop screen for gaming, i don’t think 14 inches are enough for gaming. look at the Dell XPS 1530, it has similar specs, but has a 15in screen, and a better graphics chip.

Gaming performance is just about 100% determined by graphics chip performance.
Next item would be the hard drive which should be either 7200 rpm or “solid state”
So you need to pick a graphics chip based on this list and then find laptops with that chip:
Take a look at the Sager laptops to get an idea of what you want to try and find.
Either of the following two models are much better laptops:
